Lands of Jail Hero Equipment Guide: What to Upgrade, When and for Whom

Hero gear in Lands of Jail: where it comes from, rarity, enhancement, Precision and Reformation, gear by role and player type, and the mistakes that waste materials. By MIRÖX.

In one line: gear by role, not by rarity, and upgrade in event windows, not on random days. An empty gear slot is wasted power.

Where this comes from: MIRÖX’s 10-part Hero Equipment guide for The Purge Lords (TPL), first posted in the LOJXLab Community Discord, Oct–Nov 2025.

Sample (rough): S216 alliance practice, MIRÖX’s experience; general principles rather than measured stat gains.

Not yet measured: exact stat gains per rarity tier or per enhancement level.

What would change this: a change to Arsenal or Reformation costs, or numbers showing a different upgrade order pays off faster. Send us your results.

Why equipment matters

In Lands of Jail, gear isn’t decoration, it’s power. It adds attack, health and defense; special bonuses (march speed, mining rate, skill boosts); Reformation for top-tier pieces; and extra power for Legendary heroes. A hero with great gear beats a higher-level hero with weak equipment. Gear unlocks mid-game with the Arsenal, where you forge, upgrade and reform.

Where gear comes from

  • Treasure hunts and events: the main source of full pieces and fragments
  • Arsenal crafting from materials found in battles, mines and events
  • Shops and exchanges (gold or event currency)
  • Elite high-level enemies (rare drops)

Rarity: Green → Blue → Purple → Orange → Red (Legendary). Higher tiers have higher base stats and deeper upgrades. Check event rewards before crafting; spending materials on low tiers is the rookie trap.

Upgrading: enhancement, Precision and Reformation

  • Enhancement: materials and gold raise attack, defense and health; higher rarity scales further.
  • Precision Gear: adds sub-attributes such as critical rate, healing or march speed. Choose what fits the hero’s job.
  • Reformation: rerolls a maxed piece and unlocks exclusive abilities. Expensive, so only for your core heroes.

Timing: the most skipped rule

Major events give extra points for gear enhancement. Save materials, then upgrade inside those windows: same resources, more power, plus event rewards. Keep Precision gear for your best heroes, use low-tier pieces as stepping stones, and don’t let materials sit idle.

Gear by role

RolePrioritize
Damage dealersAttack, critical rate, skill damage
Tanks / frontlinersDefense, health, damage reduction
Support / controllersEnergy recovery, healing boost, buff duration
Balanced heroesHybrid gear: offense + defense + speed

Sets: economic, combat, hybrid

  • Economic: gathering, march speed, capacity, for growth and supporting heroes.
  • Combat: attack, defense, max health, for rally leaders and defenders.
  • Hybrid: mix offense with speed or efficiency to switch from farming to fighting without losing rhythm.

Keep two presets, farming and fighting, and switch before battle, not under pressure.

By player type

PlayerFocus
NewUnlock the Arsenal early, fill every slot, don’t over-upgrade common gear.
FreeEconomic gear first, gather daily, save upgrade items for event bonuses.
MidMix combat and balanced gear; finish a few main heroes first.
EliteKeep economic, combat and hybrid sets; max Reformation on core heroes.

Common mistakes

  • Upgrading random gear without a purpose
  • Ignoring rarity: low tiers hit a ceiling fast
  • Enhancing outside reward windows
  • Leaving heroes unequipped
  • Hoarding materials “for later” while falling behind now
  • Forgetting Arsenal and gear research, which passively strengthens everything

Gear by role, not by rarity. Equip every hero, upgrade smart, switch fast, stay consistent.
